What to Check Before Lending an Item

Check safety, accessories, cleanliness and whether you can live without it until the return date.

Author: LoopSwap Editorial · Published 2026-10-26 · Updated 2026-10-26

A pre-lend check protects the next user and your item. It is not a certified inspection report.

Direct answer Ask whether the item still does its job, whether it looks hazardous, whether parts are present, and whether you can spare it. If safety is unclear, do not lend it.

Checklist - Structure: loose frames, brakes or latches. - Hygiene: mould, pet hair or unwashed residue. - Electronics: damaged cables, unusual heat or a swollen battery mean do not lend. - Notes: write known faults in the listing. - Record: keep a before photo for the return.

Extra caution Car seats, helmets and medical devices that affect bodily safety are usually poor community-lend candidates unless you can confirm history and the relevant standard. This page does not certify any item.

Limits This is general information, not legal advice, a safety inspection, or an environmental audit. Check local rules, item safety and any numbers yourself.
